Meyer Ties All-Time Strikeout Record as Mavericks Sweep Coyotes

Omaha, Neb.-- The Omaha softball team completed the weekend sweep of the South Dakota Coyotes with a 6-2 victory in game three on Sunday, Apr. 23.

Game Three: Omaha 6, South Dakota 2

How It Happened

  • The Mavericks got on the board in the second inning with Emma Durr's second home run of the season. That solo homer put Omaha up 1-0.

  • Later in the second, Olivia Aden singled, driving home Marra Cramer to double the Maverick lead.

  • Then in the third inning, Rachel Weber got things going with a single that scored Lynsey Tucker from first base. Weber was able to jog home as Sydney Ross launched her fifth home run of the season to put the Mavericks up 5-0.

  • South Dakota would respond with a two-run shot in the top of the fourth inning. Omaha would add an insurance run in the fifth off a single by Ross.

  • Kamryn Meyer finished her 13th complete game of the season by striking out the 698th batter of her career. Meyer is now tied with Cheris Kuster, who set the all-time strikeout record with 698 K's from 2004-07.

Game Notes

  • Meyer collected win No. 11 on the year, and now has 203 strikeouts in 2023.

  • Catcher Sydney Ross stole her Summit League-leading 16th base this season.

  • Ross went 2-3 with a home run and three RBI. The senior has recorded a hit in each of the last seven games.

The Mavericks will remain in Omaha for their final home Summit League series of 2023. Western Illinois will join Omaha at Connie Claussen Field for a three-game set starting on Saturday, Apr. 29.
