OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks got back in the win column on Friday as they began their three-game home series vs. Lindenwood with a 10-0 shutout that was called after seven innings. This was the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Omaha improves to 13-17 on the year while the Lions drop to 9-29.
Innings 1-4
Though the game was called after seven innings,
Preston Tenney technically still recorded his second complete game shutout of the season as he was unhittable for much of the day. For the first 3.1 innings, he was perfect on the mound, allowing zero base runners while striking out three.
At the plate, Omaha's bats were working early.
Cam Frederick drove in the first run of the day with a single in the second as the first three batters all reached safely. He would then steal his third base in the last two games and come around to score on a two-run double from
Eddie Satisky that was mere inches away from leaving the park.
Matt Goetzmann continues to rake as he capped off the four-run second inning with his first double of the day.
After picking up another run in the third thanks to the first career triple from Frederick, Omaha again put up a four spot in the fourth inning.
Zach Lechnir got things started with his second home run in as many games, followed by a three-run bomb from
Brennen Bales who now has three home runs in his last four at bats.
Innings 5-7
Up 9-0 after four, Tenney continued to cruise in the later innings of the game, punching out two in the fifth with a couple of balls placed right on the outside corner, before ending his day in the top of the seventh with a three-pitch swinging strikeout.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Eduardo Rosario was hit by a pitch and then replaced by
Garrett Kennedy on the base paths. After Satisky advanced Kennedy to third on a single, Goetzmann launched his second double of the day to walk off the Lions.
Inside the Box Score
This was the first career walk-off hit for Goetzmann.
Today marks the seventh time this season the Mavericks have totaled at least six extra-base hits in a single game.
Tenney was highly efficient on the mound, needing only 77 pitches to get through seven innings.
Bales reached safely in all four of his plate appearances today, walking three times in addition to his home run.
