Mavericks Erupt for 11 Runs in Series Opener against Roos

The Omaha Mavericks softball secured their 19th victory of the season today after defeating the UMKC Roos, 11-2. All tied up at 2-2 after three innings, the Mavericks bats came alive in the second half of the game to take the series opening game.

How It Happened
  • Emma Durr opened up the scoring in the top of the 2nd with a double to center field bringing home Marra Cramer
  • The next at bat, Olivia Aden was hit by a pitch and then Sophie Cerveny brought her home with a double to right center to take a 2-0 lead
  • KC would tie the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning
  • In the top of the 4th inning, Lynsey Tucker reached on a fielders choice and a quick footed Olivia Aden scored Omaha's third run of the game beating out a throw home
  • Omaha's bats exploded for five runs in the top of the 5th inning blowing the game wide open
  • It started when Rachel Weber singled to the pitcher which scored Tucker all the way from second base
  • Sydney Ross hit her team leading 5th homerun of the season a couple at bats later to extend Omaha's lead to 6-2
  • Marra Cramer hit her 3rd triple of the season to score Ava Rongisch giving the Mavericks a 7-3 lead
  • Omaha rounded out the 5th inning scoring when Emma Durr grounded out to the shortstop to score Cramer
  • Omaha added three more runs in the top of the 7th inning with all three runs coming via walks with the bases loaded
GAME NOTES
  • Senior ace Kamryn Meyer notched her 9th victory of the season 
  • Meyer pitched 6.0 innings allowing just two unearned runs on two hits while striking out nine batters
  • Meyer now sits at 672 career strikeouts as she inches closer to Omaha's all-time strikeout record
  • The Mavericks 11 runs today is the second most runs scored in a game this season for them
