Omaha and North Dakota to Settle Quarterfinal Series Tomorrow Night

The No. 17 Omaha Mavericks and North Dakota Fighting Hawks will meet in a win or go home NCHC Quarterfinal finale tomorrow night. The Fighting Hawks evened the series tonight with a 3-1 victory.

North Dakota struck first tonight at 10:01 of the 1st period. In the last 27 meetings between these two NCHC rivals, the team that scores first is 25-1-1. 2:23 later, freshman blueliner Jo Lemay blasted a one-timer into the top left corner of the cage to even things at 1-1. The power play strike was assisted by Jacob Guevin and Brock Bremer.

UND's Tyler Kleven scored the eventual game winning goal at 16:37 of the 2nd period on the power play. The Mavericks pushed hard in the final 20 minutes of regulation but were unsuccessful in netting the equalizer. North Dakota capitalized on an empty Omaha net with 61 seconds left in regulation to help send this best of three series to a Game 3.

"It was another close game there tonight," Omaha head coach Mike Gabinet said. "We had a couple of chances early in the game to capitalize on and we didn't, and they found a way to score that second power play goal to go up 2-1 but we couldn't find a way to tie it up tonight."

The winner of tomorrow's game will advance to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff in St. Paul, Minnesota. The puck will be dropped at 6:07 p.m.
