Mavericks Finish 2022-23 Season 19-15-3

The Omaha Mavericks 2022-23 season came to end tonight after a 5-2 loss to North Dakota in Game 3 of the NCHC Quarterfinals.

a 2-2 game until the final five minutes of regulation, the Mavericks battled all night long and left everything they had out on the ice. Junior winger Jimmy Glynn opened the scoring tonight when he tapped in a loose puck out front of the UND cage at 14:14 of the 1st period. Davis Pennington and Cam Berg registered the helpers. 15 seconds prior, the Mavericks killed a full two minutes of a 5-on-3 UND power play after Omaha was called for two penalties on the same shift.

2:36 into the 2nd period, North Dakota capitalized on a power play after Nolan Krenzen was pulled down and taken out of the play resulting in North Dakota attacking with numbers towards the Omaha net. Omaha would regain the lead at 12:04 of the 2nd period when Cam Berg corralled a puck in the slot and fired it past Drew DeRidder. Blueliners Kirby Proctor and Nolan Krenzen tallied the assists. 

With 5:14 left in regulation, North Dakota scored the game winning goal on a broken play out front. 

Omaha held the nations top power play unit 1-for-8 tonight. The Mavericks PK unit held North Dakota scoreless in their three 3rd period power plays.

Picked to finish 7th in the NCHC Preseason poll, the Mavericks finished the 2022-23 season 19-15-3 and in 3rd place in the conference for the regular season. It was highlighted by wins over seven Top-20 ranked opponents including a 3-0 shutout victory over the top ranked Denver Pioneers. They maintained control of the Pride of the Maverick trophy with a 7-2 victory over Minnesota State in the first game of the season and ended the season with winning records at Baxter Arena and on the road.
