First Half Shooting Downs Omaha in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. - A rough first-half of shooting for the Mavericks helped the Bison pull away in the first half Thursday night. NDSU shot 55.9 percent to Omaha's 21.2 percent in the first half to take an 84-58 win.

The Mavericks fall to 7-19 overall, 3-11 in the Summit League.

Omaha Leaders
Frankie Fidler led the Mavericks with 14 points on 5-of-12 from the field. He was a perfect 4-of-4 at the line. Jaeden Marshall and Tony Osburn added 12 points each off the bench.

JJ White dished out a team-best fiveassists, and Marquel Sutton grabbed five boards.

North Dakota State Leaders
Grant Nelson recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 boards. He also tallied five assists, two blocks, and one steal.

Andrew Morgan (16), Taravis Millers (13), Damari Wheeler-Thomas (12), and Boden Skunberg (12) all finished in double figures.

Team Stats
Omaha shot over 47 percent in the second half helping the Mavericks finished 34.8 percent from the field for the game. The Bison shot over 51 percent, which included nine made three-pointers.

Omaha's bench out scored NDSU's, 32-12. The Mavericks also led on the fast break, 9-2, and points off turnovers, 7-4. The Bison narrowly led on second chance buckets, 9-6, and in the paint, 36-34.

Inside the First Half
Dylan Brougham scored the first points of Thursday's game, but the game was quickly 9-2 in favor of NDSU. Jaeden Marshall provided a spark for Omaha off the bench with a three-pointer and they'd trail 11-7 with 14:51 to play. Following the media timeout, the Bison used a 22-2 run to blow open the lead 30-9 with 8:49 to play.

The run was eventually snapped by Brougham with a second-chance bucket with 7:08 to play. Kyle Luedtke would get Omaha's next basket with 4:24 to play with hope to provide a much needed spark, but the Mavericks continued to struggle from the field shooting just 24 percent over the first 20 minutes. NDSU took a 47-17 lead at the break.

Inside the Second Half
The Mavericks outscored the Bison in the second half, 41-47, but it wasn't enough to overcome the first-half deficit. They scored e first six points of the half with the help of Sutton, White, and Fidler. Omaha attempted to keep the lead under 30, but by the 12-minute mark, NDSU took a 38-point edge with a layup from Nelson.

The next time the Mavericks saw the lead under 30 came at the four-minute mark with a pair of free throws from Fidler. Marshall was able to cut it down to 25 twice in the final minutes, but NDSU took an 84-58 win.
