Mavericks Fall in OT to Fighting Hawks

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - For the first time this season, the Mavericks saw overtime action. The first six points went Omaha's way, but North Dakota was able to pull off a 76-73 win in OT.

Omaha falls to 7-20 overall, 3-12 in league play.

Omaha Leaders
Frankie Fidler led all-scorers with 25 points. He was 8-of-14 from the field with one three. He also went a perfect 8-for-8 at the foul line. Tony Osburn joined Fidler in double-figures with 11 points. He was 4-of-4 from the field and hit all three of his attempts from deep.

Dylan Brougham grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, while JJ White tallied a game-best five assists.

North Dakota Leaders
Matt Norman scored a team-high 21 points for North Dakota, while teammate Jalun Trent had a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double before he fouled out.

Tsotne Tsartsidze fell short of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Brady Danielson was the final Fighting Hawk in double-figures with 15 points.

Team Stats
Omaha shot 47.1 percent from the field, while North Dakota shot 40.3 percent. The Fighting Hawks made nine threes to the Mavericks' five. Omaha finished 20-of-23 at the line, while UND struggled at 17-of-25.

Omaha's bench outscored UND's, 19-7. The Mavericks also held a one-point edge on second chance points, while the Fighting Hawks led in the paint (30-26), on the fast break (9-2), and off turnovers (19-6).

Inside the First Half
The first half of Saturday's game started out neck and neck for the Mavericks and Fighting Hawks. The first bucket went to North Dakota in the opening minute, but Omaha tied the game four times in the opening 10 minutes. The Mavericks gained their first lead of the game on a three-pointer from Osburn at the 9:41 mark. He repeated that action on the next trip down the floor and Omaha took a 19-13 edge with under nine to go.

Omaha controlled the next four minutes of action and built its lead up to double-figures on a jumper from Fidler with 4:02 on the clock, but the Fighting Hawks used a 9-0 run capped with a pair of threes from Danielson and Norman to take the lead with under a minute to go. Fidler sunk a jump shot on the next possession, but it was matched by UND, and the Fighting Hawks took a 33-32 lead into halftime.

Inside the Second Half
Four lead changes came right off the bat in the opening three minutes of the second half. Trent battled inside for a layup at the 16:53 mark, while Norman hit a three in transition to take a five-point edge. BJ Omot added another from deep, and UND led by six five minutes in. Omaha would chip away at the led and recapture it on a three-point play from Marquel Sutton a minute before the 12-minute media timeout.

The remainder of the half saw eight more lead changes as the teams continued to battle down the stretch. Omaha trailed by two with four seconds on the clock when Jaeden Marshall took a three-pointer hoping for the win, but the Fighting Hawks fouled him and sent him to the line. Marshall went 2-for-3 at the charity strip to tie the game 66-66, and for the first time this season, the Mavericks went to overtime. 

Inside Overtime
Fidler sparked a 6-0 run to open the five-minute OT period and Omaha took a six-point lead. Tsartsidze cut that in half with a three-pointer from the top of the arc. Eaglestaff and Danielson eventually erased the deficit completely and took a 74-73 lead with 20 seconds left. The Mavericks faced foul trouble in the final minutes with Marshall, Brougham, and Fidler all heading to the bench. The spark was put out , and UND went on to win, 76-73.

Game Notes
-Fidler extends his double-figure scoring streak to five games.
-For the second straight season, Fidler dropped at least 25 points on the road at North Dakota.
