Mavericks Fall in Home Finale to SDSU

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks honored Kyle Luedtke, Akol Arop, and Grant Frickenstein for senior night Saturday as they closed the home portion of their schedule with the Jackrabbits. South Dakota State ran away with a 91-70 win over Omaha in front of the second largest crowd Baxter Arena saw all season.

The Mavericks fall to 8-21 overall, 4-13 in league play.

Omaha Leaders
Frankie Fidler scored a team-high 20 points on 7-of-14 from the field. Fidler recorded two threes and was 4-of-4 from the line. He also tallied three blocks and one assist. JJ White reached double-figures with 11 points. He tallied six assists and four rebounds.

Dylan Brougham added nine points, four rebounds, and one block. Marquel Sutton grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. 

South Dakota State Leaders
Five Jackrabbits scored double-figures on the night. Matt Dentlinger led all-scorers with 16 points, while Zeke May added 18 points. They had seven and nine rebounds, respectively. William Kyle III completed a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. This trio each recorded two blocked shots.

Off the bench, Charlie Easley scored 14, while Matthew mors added 10 points.

Inside the First Half
Mors and Brougham traded baskets to open Saturday's action, but the Jackrabbits exploded for the next 10 straight for a 12-2 lead five minutes in. Ahead of the first media timeout at the 13:18 mark, Sutton got the Mavericks within two possessions, but Mayo scored six straight for SDSU for a 12-point lead with 12 to play. 

SDSU got the lead up to 17 three separate times before the Mavericks went on a 12-2 run to get the lead back under 10. Fidler hit a three-pointer with 1:35 left in the half to get within in, 42-33. It was Omaha's final bucket of the half, and SDSU led 46-33 at the break.

Inside the Second Half
The Mavericks wouldn't see the lead drop below 10 again for the remainder of the game. White scored the first Maverick points of the half to get back within 13 of the Jacks, but SDSU continued to build distance with Omaha. SDSU's first 20+ point edge came on a three from Mayo with 14:36 to play, while the largest lead came on a three from Easley with 11:48 on the clock. SDSU led 73-48.

Fidler's three-pointer with 3:12 on the clock cut the lead to 19. He kept it at 19 less than a minute later with a pair of made free throws. The Mavericks wouldn't score again until under a minute with a three from Glover, and the Jackrabbits won, 91-70.

Game Notes
-Fidler extended his double-figure scoring streak to eight straight games.
-He tallied a career-high three blocks.
-Omaha's crowd of 3,242 marked the second largest crowd this season. It's the ninth largest crowd the basketball team has hosted in Baxter Arena.
