Mavericks Drop Second Game to UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Mavericks (0-2) could not overcome another offensive barrage by UCLA (2-0) as they dropped game two of the series 23-0 Saturday afternoon.

Innings 1-3
For the second day in a row, Mike Boeve got on in the top of the first with a double to left, but the Mavericks were unable to bring him home. In the bottom of the inning, Charlie Bell ran into some early trouble and allowed a run on a single up the middle, before settling in and stranding a pair.

Over the next two innings, Bruins starter Alonzo Tredwell limited the Mavericks to just one hit, courtesy of Eddie Satisky, while at the same time clubbing three home runs to go up 8-0.

Innings 4-6
After striking out the first batter he faced to end the third, Rans Sanders tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fourth, getting a couple of flashy defensive plays from Satisky at first base and Matt Goetzmann in right field before fanning the final batter himself.

In the top of the fifth, Cam Frederick just missed a home run by a couple feet as he ripped the second double of the day for Omaha, but like Boeve he would not come around to score as Tredwell struck out the next two batters. The Bruins would then add five more runs over the next two innings to grow their lead to 13-0.

Innings 7-9
The Bruins offense continued to produce over the next two innings, picking up eight more runs in the seventh and another two in the eighth. Meanwhile, Henry Zipay notched a single for his first career hit as a Maverick in the top of the seventh.

Inside the Box Score
With his double today, Boeve now has 41 in his career as he is just four away from breaking into the top five all-time at Omaha.

In two career games against UCLA, Frederick has hit a double in each of them.

Sanders struck out four batters in 3.1 innings of work, as well as tossing the only 1-2-3 inning of the day for the Mavericks.

Up Next
The Mavericks will look to end their time in Los Angeles with a win as they wrap up their series with UCLA this Sunday at 3 p.m. RHP Preston Tenney is the probable starter for Omaha in what would be his Mavericks debut, while RHP Kelly Austin will take the mound for the Bruins.
