Mims, Fla.-- The Omaha men's golf team completed the Carpenter-Chaney Classic on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11.
The Mavericks went 1-2 on the weekend, earning a share of third place in the Chaney group. Lindenwood won the group, going a perfect 3-0. Eastern Kentucky earned second place, finishing 2-1. The Mavericks tied Missouri State, Morehead State and SIUE, which all went 1-2 over two days.
FRIDAY, FEB. 10
Round One vs. Lindenwood (Loss, 4-1-1)
The Mavericks started the day with a matchup against Lindenwood.
Connor Wilson picked up the lone win in round one. The redshirt senior tied Lindenwood's L. Bentein on five holes, won seven, and lost five. Wilson was ahead by two cups with one hole remaining.
Kurtis Rodriguez earned a tie in the first round against M. Holmes. Rodriguez and Holmes each won six holes and tied on six.
Josh Peters needed one more point to tie S. Beyers. The senior finished round one down two with one hole to go.
Mathew Halvorson dropped his match against M. Frith. Halvorson trailed by four points with three holes to play.
Nolan Johnson ended his first-round match against J. Gardner down by five with four cups to play. Josh Bartels ended nine holes behind R. Filho with seven left.
Round Two vs. Eastern Kentucky (Win, 4-2-0)
Omaha rebounded from the first-round loss with a win over Eastern Kentucky in round two.
Josh Peters earned a victory over EKU's M. Dao. Peters was able to win his match in just 13 holes, going up by six cups with five to play.
Mathew Halvorson took care of P. Carrascosa in round two. The graduate student was up three with two holes remaining.
Kurtis Rodriguez won over F. Guarneri in the second round. The sophomore finished up one hole over his opponent.
Connor Wilson defeated W. Griffin by one. Wilson went 2-0 on the day with wins over L. Bentein of Lindenwood and Griffin of Eastern Kentucky.
Nolan Johson found M. Jordan too much to handle in his second-round matchup. The freshman fell to Jordan by three with two holes to play. Josh Bartels dropped his match in round two to J. Begley. Bartels was behind by five with three cups to go.
SATURDAY, FEB. 11
Round Three vs. SIUE (Loss, 4-1-1)
Mathew Halvorson picked up the lone victory in the final round for Omaha. Halvorson defeated SIUE's A. Eickhoff going two up with one hole to play. The graduate student finished the event with a record of 2-1-0.
Nolan Johnson earned his first tie in the event against L. Ludwig. The freshman ended his first match-play event with a record of 0-2-1.
Connor Wilson fell in his third-round matchup against B. Kaufmann. Wilson was down one after 18 but leaves Florida with a record of 2-1-0.
Kurtis Rodriguez lost to T. Baker to close out the tournament. Rodriguez was also down one after 18. He takes home a record of 1-1-1.
Josh Bartels and Josh Peters dropped their round three matches. Bartels went 0-3-0 on the weekend after the loss to B. Jungbluth. Peters went 1-2-0 with the loss from A. Ruthey.
The Mavericks have a few weeks off before they head to Spring, Texas for the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, hosted by Houston Christian on Monday and Tuesday, March 6-7.
