LUBBOCK, Texas - The Mavericks opened the month of December and their second of two trips to Texas with an 87-58 loss to Big 12 powerhouse Texas Tech on Wednesday night as their three-game win streak came to an end.
Omaha is back at .500 on the year at 5-5, while the Red Raiders improve to 6-2.
Leaders for Omaha
Marquel Sutton,
Frankie Fidler and
Jaeden Marshall all scored in double-figures tonight, with Sutton shooting 7-for-11 for 15 points, Fidler going 5-for-11 for 12, and Marshall making 3-of-7 for 10. Sutton was also tied with
Nick Davis for the team lead in rebounds with five each.

Meanwhile, Warren Washington was the top rebounder of the night, pulling down 12.
Team Stats
Omaha held a slim lead in second-chance points tonight at 11 to nine, and also kept it close in the paint, only being outscored 24-22. Overall, though, Texas Tech outshot the Mavericks on field goals (50% to 42%), three-pointers (39% to 27%), and free throws (90% to 57%).
Inside the First Half
Through the first five minutes Omaha held an 8-5 lead over the Red Raiders, with Fidler opening up scoring with a layup at 18:33, and
Tony Osburn ending the run with a jumper in the paint at 15:16. However, Texas Tech bounced right back and retook the lead at 14:26, holding it for the rest of the half.
Down 14-8 at 12:27, Marshall made it a four-point game after collecting his own rebound and making the layup, but that would be as close as Omaha would get as TTU outscored them 28-12 over the remainder of the half. Osburn and Sutton would make up half of those points over the final 90 seconds as they scored the first threes of the night for Omaha.
Inside the Second Half
Trailing 50-27 three and a half minutes into the second, the Mavericks cut the deficit to 16 after they went on a nice 7-0 scoring run starting with a layup from Marshall, followed by a bucket and the and-one from
JJ White, and closed out by two from the stripe for
Grant Stubblefield. Halfway through, Omaha was even outscoring Texas Tech 22-17 as Sutton passed into double-digits and Fidler made his first three at 10:34 to keep the deficit to 16.
Like in the first, though, the Red Raiders came out strong in final 10 minutes, going on a 28-14 run to close out the game.
