Mavericks Net Four 2nd Period Goals to Down No. 3/2 Denver and Split Weekend

The Omaha Mavericks used four 2nd period goals today to down the No. 3/2 Denver Pioneers 4-3.

After the series finale was postponed last night due to ice conditions, the Mavericks and Pioneers resumed play at the beginning of the 2nd period today, tied 0-0.

It wouldn't take long for Omaha to find the back of the net as Matt Miller scored just 1:18 into the 2nd period. Jimmy Glynn put a nice move on a DU defender down low to feed Miller who finished the job out front of the Denver cage. 4:30 into the frame, Ty Mueller extended the Mavericks lead to 2-0, burying his team leading fifth goal into the yawning Pioneer net. Brock Bremer created an offensive zone turnover below the goal line, moved the puck up to Jesse Lansdell who dropped it between his legs for Mueller to light the lamp for the fifth consecutive game.

Mueller is the sixth player in program history to score a goal in five straight games. He joins some elite company in Jeff Hoggan (2001-02), Scott Parse (2005-06), Brandon Scero (2005-06), Ryan Walters (2012-13, twice) and Josh Archibald (2013-14).

Denver would go on to tie the contest at 2-2 midway through the period. Things wouldn't stay even long as Tanner Ludtke potted his third goal of the season, 2:16 later. Mueller won the faceoff and Ludtke took control of the lose puck and fired it home top shelf, regaining the lead for the Mavericks.

With time winding down in the 2nd period, Lansdell put a shot on net that produced a juicy rebound that was cleaned up by Jo Lemay with 3 ticks left on the clock.

Next up for Omaha is the Augustana Vikings. The Mavericks and Vikings are set to battle it out in a home-and-home series with Friday's game being in Omaha.
