Despite jumping out to a pair of one goal leads tonight in the 1
st period, the Denver Pioneers took tonight's series opener 8-4.
5:46 into the contest,
Ray Fust netted his second goal of the season to put the Mavericks up 1-0. Sophomore's Jo Lemay and
Tyler Rollwagen tallied the helpers on the game opening goal. After a quick answer from Denver,
Ty Mueller regained the lead for Omaha with 9:43 left in the 1
st period. Receiving a pass from
Tanner Ludtke at center ice, Mueller flew into the offensive zone, put a nasty inside-outside move on the DU defender and buried top left for his team leading fourth goal of the campaign. Sophomore blueliner
Griffin Ludtke registered the secondary assist.
Mueller becomes the 21
st player in program history to score a goal in four consecutive games as he extended his goal streak to four games this evening.
Trailing 6-2, the Mavericks forced an offensive zone turnover and
Brock Bremer was all alone in the slot to finish the job. Bremer's second lamp lighter of the season, which was assisted by
Jesse Lansdell, came at the 18:06 mark of the 2
nd period.
At 9:10 of the 3
rd period, alternate captain
Matt Miller tapped in his first goal of the season out front of the DU cage.
Kirby Proctor and
Jack Randl assisted on the fourth Omaha goal.
Each with an assist tonight, defensemen Jo Lemay and
Kirby Proctor each extended their point streak to three games.
The Mavericks and Pioneers will do it all again tomorrow night in the series finale. Puck drop slated for 6:07 MT.
