Mavericks Sweep TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Performers of the Week

Nov 14, 2023

Omaha, Neb.-- The Omaha Mavericks swept all four TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Performers of the Week honors, as announced Tuesday afternoon. Payton Easley garnered the women's swimmer, Kyle Kulow earned the men's swimmer, Ian Blackstock was named the men's diver and Darby Drake was tabbed the women's diver.

Payton Easley earns her second weekly honors of the season after a record breaking performance last week. The junior had a dominate weekend where she split the fastest 50-free in the conference this season with a 22.58 and went on to win the individual 50-free with a time of 23.33 ranking her first overall in the conference. She also won the 100-free with a school record time of 50.27 ranking her with the top time in the Summit by almost two seconds. She finished her weekend leading off the 400 free relay that won and also set a school record.

"Payton had a monster meet," said Head Coach Jessica Hessel. "She will be expecting more results in February, but we cannot complain about the races she put together this past weekend.   She had some great relay splits, highlighted with a 22.58 50 free.  She broke her 100 free school record and led the relay that broke the 400 Free Relay school record.  She went up against some very strong swimmers and walked away with two wins in individual events.  I know Payton is very excited about her performances and even more excited about the room for improvement leading up to conference."

Freshman Kyle Kulow earns his first Peak Performer award after he broke the school record in the 200 and 500-free this past weekend with a 1:38.84 and 4:36.67. He narrowly missed the first place finish in the 200-free by 0.2 seconds. He currently holds the fastest time for the 200-free in the Summit League and the third fastest time in the 500 free. He finished up a tough weekend of swimming with the 400 free relay that narrowly missed our school record with a split of 45.39.

"Kyle really showed us the kind of competitor he is over the weekend," said Hessel. "He stepped up to challenges, never backed down and had confidence throughout the meet. It's great seeing him break 2 school records in the 200 and 500 free as a freshman.  Hats off to Kyle for being our first guy to break the 1:40 mark.  We have some things we will continue to develop here in the back half of season but what a way to start his college career. It's time to get back to work so he can do it all over again in February."

Blackstock garnered his third weekly award after another sweep of first place finishes. The junior diver has yet to not compete and take both first place spots. This last weekend he scored a 272.45 on the 1-meter and 288.20 on the three-meter.

"Ian had a nice weekend at the A3 Invite and I hope he enjoys this recognition from the Summit League," said diving coach Eric Sprague. "His next two opponents will be conference rivals, so, Ian and the rest of our men will have an opportunity to gauge their progress and see where they stand against some competitors at the end of the season."

Drake was tabbed with her second weekly honors after a notable performance on the boards. She totaled 239.9 points on the one-meter and followed that performance up with 252.10 score on the three-meter.

"Oddly, this was Darby's first mid-season competition in her collegiate diving career," said Sprague. "Covid, facility issues, and an injury have led to this the previous three seasons, so, just watching her be able to dive at the A3 Invite would have been rewarding enough.  Darby and the rest of our women put in a determined performance all weekend and I'm certain it will help us throughout the rest of the season."
