Mavericks to Split the Week at Home and on the Road

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks look to keep on rolling in October as they begin the third week of Summit League competition at home vs. Oral Roberts before hitting the road for a single match at South Dakota State.

Weekend Slate
  • Thursday, October 5, Omaha vs. Oral Roberts at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 7, Omaha at South Dakota State at 1 p.m.
Quick Hits
  • The Mavericks made it three in a row last week when they took down North Dakota and North Dakota State in five sets each on the road. As a result, Omaha has sling shotted into third place in the Summit League standings.
  • Amanda Hardt continues to make her case as one of top rookies in the country as she earned her first career Summit League Offensive Peak Performer of the Week award after leading the Mavericks with 34 kills (3.40 K/S) and a .369 attack percentage last week. Against the Fighting Hawks, she set a new personal-best with 16 kills. Then, two days later, she again set a new career-best with 18 kills and a .424 attack percentage against the Bison.
  • In her fifth season with the Mavericks, Rachel Fairbanks passed two major career milestones vs. NDSU on September 30, recording 13 kills and 14 digs to officially top 500 career kills and 500 career digs.
  • Prior to last week, the Mavericks had not had someone record at least five service aces in a match since Shayla McCormick did it on November 5, 2022. Against UND, Erica Fava became the first to do it this season when she served five aces, followed by Olivia Tukuafu who did the same against NDSU.
  • Speaking of McCormick, she set a new season-best with 18 kills at UND, along with 10 digs for her third-straight double-double.
  • Brynlee Arnold saw her consecutive match streak of getting nine kills end at four on Thursday as she fell just short with eight at UND. However, against NDSU she ended the day with nine kills yet again for the fifth time this year.

Scouting Oral Roberts
The Golden Eagles are 2-13 overall and 0-3 in the Summit League after losing their only match last week at Kansas City.

Golden Eagles To Watch
Junior outside hitter Trinity Freeman has more than double the kills of the next closest player on the team at 194 (3.80 K/S). In addition to that, she is third on the team with 129 digs and has 4 double-doubles on the season.

Junior libero Breanna Rivas leads ORU's defense with 184 digs and is one of four players on the team with triple-digit digs. She also paces Oral Roberts with 19 service aces.

Series History
The Mavericks are 15-9 all-time vs. the Golden Eagles and are currently on an eight-match winning streak in the series dating back to 2019.

Scouting South Dakota State
The Jackrabbits enter the week at 3-12 with a 1-2 conference mark following a 1-3 loss to Denver. Before hosting the Mavericks, SDSU will play NDSU at home on Thursday.

Jackrabbits to Watch
Sophomore Katie Van Egdom and freshman Sylvie Zgonc are neck and neck for the team lead in kills with 187 and 178, respectively. Both are nearly tied in points as well, with Van Egdom holding the edge in blocks with 206.5 and Zgonc leading in aces with 199.0.

SDSU's defense is headed up by newcomer Stella Winterfeld and junior Elyse Winter. Winterfield has nearly 100 more digs than the next closest Jackrabbit with 211, while the latter owns a team-high 34 total blocks.

Series History
Omaha owns a 50-21 record against SDSU, most recently splitting the 2022 season series. In the division I era, the Mavericks maintain a comfortable 15-7 lead.
