Mavericks Win Streak Halted at Five

The Omaha Mavericks fell 6-1 in tonight's road series opener to the No. 9 Western Michigan Broncos. Omaha's season long five-game win streak was snapped with tonight's defeat.

Ty Mueller was the lone goal scorer for the Mavericks this evening. His 10th goal of the season at 9:45 of the 1st period pulled Omaha within one of the Broncos after they jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

Freshman netminder Simon Latkoczy started the 2nd period for the Mavericks. In 40 minutes of relief, he stopped 20 of the 22 shots he faced, extending his streak of games of allowing two or less goals to seven.

The NCHC's least penalized team went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill tonight. Their final two penalties of the night came with under 2:35 left in regulation. The Mavericks killed a 5-on-3 for 40 seconds in that final 2:35.

Omaha did a great job of shutting down the Broncos top line of Ryan McAllister (first in the NCAA in scoring), Max Sasson and Jason Polin (third in the NCAA in scoring). Combined, that line has 107 points this season. Omaha held them scoreless this evening.

The Mavericks will regroup and reset for tomorrow's series finale against the No. 9 Broncos. Puck drop is slated for 5:00 p.m. CT.
