Omaha Falters at No. 20 Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. - Omaha women's soccer faced its first ranked opponent of the 2022 season Sunday afternoon in No. 20 Colorado. The Buffaloes used four first-half goals to pull away for a 5-0 win over the Mavericks.

With the loss, Omaha falls to 1-3-2 overall.

How It Happened
  • The Mavericks held the Buffs without a shot in the first 15 minutes of action. Jenny Beyer broke the stretch with a shot high on target. 
  • A little over two minutes later, Kayleigh Webb netted the game winner for Colorado. She placed the Ball of Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen's shoulder off a deflection for an early first-half lead.
  • In the 19th minute, Reedtz took a knee to the head on a play inside the box sidelining her for the remainder of the match. Emma Konsmo subbed in and made her career debut for Omaha.
  • Shyra James found the back of the net in the 30th minute making it a 2-0 game in Colorado's favor.
  • Hannah Sharts and Jayden Newkirk scored back-to-back in the final five minutes of the half, and the Buffs took a 4-0 edge at the break.
  • Omaha recorded the first two shots of the second half. Cece Behrens had Omaha's first attempt off target in the 47th minute. 
  • Marissa Gohr then struck on goal in the 52nd forcing Bella Grust to make her first save of the match.
  • Konsmo made two straight saves in the 55th minute, while Behrens forced another two for the Mavericks in the 62nd and 66th minutes.
  • The 66th minute also saw CU's fifth goal of the match from Civana Kuhlmann. Omaha didn't have an answer and the Buffs went on to win.

Inside the Box
  • Omaha was outshot Sunday, 25-5.
  • Behrens had three of the five shots for the Mavericks.
  • Maggie Gunderson and Lindsey Birch made their first career starts.
  • Reedtz made one save, while Konsmo made two. Reedtz falls to 1-3-2 overall.

The Mavericks return to action next week. Omaha heads to Minnesota on Thursday, Sept. 8 for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
