ST. CHARLES, Mo. –
Emilie Erland netted the game winner Sunday afternoon helping Omaha to its first win of the season. The Mavericks posted a 1-0 shutout at Lindenwood.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to 1-1-0 on the year.
How it Happened
- The Mavericks looked to gain an advantage early Sunday afternoon placing the first shot on goal just past the five-minute mark. Zimmers forced a save high center.
- Marissa Gohr took a shot on target in the 11th minute, but the Lions managed a team save to keep things scoreless.
- Over the next eight minutes, Grace Ostergaard and Reagan Bourgeois recorded off target attempts. Ostergaard managed a strike on goal in the 22nd minute, but it would also be saves.
- Maggie Weller broke the ice for the Lions with their first shot of the game in the 31st minute. She placed it high center only to be save by Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen. It was the last shot on goal of the half, and the match was tied 0-0 at the break.
- Out of halftime, Zimmers continued her offensive aggression tallying the first two shots of the second. In the 54th minute, Zimmers' shot was saved, while three minutes later her attempt was off to the right of the goal.
- Maggie Gunderson and Grace Crockett got in on the action with back-to-back shots on goal in the 60th minute. Sam Blazek remained an iron wall between the pipes saving both attempts.
- Ostergaard's next shot camp in the 72nd minute. It was her fourth of the match but was saved in the bottom left of the net by Blazek.
- Omaha's perseverance paid off in the 76th minute when Emilie Erland capitalized on her second shot for the Mavericks. Erland's goal was the final shot of the match, and the Mavericks went on to win 1-0.
Inside the Box
- Erland's goal was her first of the season. It is her second of her career.
- Zimmers finished with a new career-high eight shots. Her previous record was six recorded in her freshman campaign vs. North Dakota.
- Ostergaard tallied four shots, while Erland had two.
- Omaha out shot Lindenwood, 20-1. The Mavericks finished with eight shots on goal.
- Reedtz improves to 1-1-0 in goal. She made one save. It marks the 13th shutout of her career with Omaha.
