Omaha Wraps Up Regular Season in Miesville

May 21, 2022

Box Score MIESVILLE, Minn. – Fourth-seeded Omaha will meet Summit League champion North Dakota State in the first round of the conference tournament in Tulsa, Okla., Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. at Johnson Stadium.

The league announced the pairings for the double-elimination event Saturday at the conclusion of the regular season. No. 3 seed South Dakota State faces host Oral Roberts in the other game at 6:05 p.m.

The Mavericks (24-29) were already locked into their spot prior to their regular-season finale against St. Thomas (16-29), which was played off campus at the home of the Miesville Hudhens. For the third time in as many days, Omaha raced to an early lead that later disappeared. The Tommies rallied for a 9-8 win.

Omaha scored in each of the first four innings and led 7-1 midway through. Mike Boeve extended his hitting streak to 29 games with a first-inning single and then scored on a double by Eduardo Rosario.

Consecutive doubles by Will Hanafan and Harrison Denk, after a Grant Goldston single, made it 3-1 in the second. Hanafan drove in two more runs, and Goldston added an RBI single, in the third as the lead grew to five. Jack Lombardi's sacrifice fly in the fourth pushed the Omaha advantage to six runs at 7-1.

Starter Charlie Bell gave up a run in the first, but he cruised into the fifth with a large lead and having retired 10 batters in a row. He didn't make it out of that inning as St. Thomas put seven runs on the board against him, losing pitcher Jackson Gordon (0-3) and Easton Smith to take the lead for good.

Boeve and Rosario had three hits each while Denk, Goldston and Hanafan recorded two apiece.
