VERMILLION, S.D. - For the second straight season, the second-seeded Mavericks are headed to the championship game to take on the top-seeded Jackrabbits. Omaha advanced with wins over No. 4 South Dakota and No. 3 North Dakota State Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks improve to 31-13 overall.
Game One: Omaha 3, South Dakota 1
How It Happened
- The Coyotes crossed home first in Saturday's meeting with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third. South Dakota loaded the bases with one out allowing Eamiguel to send Villotta home for a 1-0 lead.
- Jamie White tied it 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning. She doubled down the right field line in the leadoff spot. She'd make it home on a pair of grounded outs from Lexi Burkhardt and Rachel Weber.
- The scored was deadlocked until the sixth inning when the Maverick bats got hot. Izzy Elzte and Lynsey Tucker hit back-to-back base hits through the right side. White advanced them setting them up to score on Burkhardt's double. Omaha took a 3-1 edge into the seventh after big plays from Burkhardt and Weber in the outfield to hold the Yotes off in the bottom half.
- Each team tallied a final hit in the seventh but couldn't convert. The Mavericks stayed alive with a 3-1 win.
Inside the Box Score
- Nuismer pitched a complete game and earned her sixth win in the circle. She retired two batters.
- The Mavericks out hit the Coyotes, 7-4.
- Eltze led the squad with two hits. She recorded her sixth triple of the season.
- The win marked Omaha's 30th of the season. It's the first time since the 2016 season a team has hit the 30-win mark.
Game Two: Omaha 3, North Dakota State 2
How It Happened
- It was a defensive battle between the Mavericks and Bison to start Saturday's meeting until White struck in the third. White got a hold of a pitch and sent it sailing over the left field fence. She brought in three RBI for a 3-0 Omaha lead after three.
- The Bison cut the Maverick lead to one in the fifth. Licea tallied the first hit and scored on Padgett's double in the next at-bat. Padgett would score the second run on Gates' grounded out, but Omaha would hold the lead, 3-2.
- The Mavericks didn't allow another Bison hit and turned a double play to seal their trip to the championship.
Inside the Box Score
- Kamryn Meyer started in the circle for the Mavericks. She improves to 21-6 with another four strikeouts.
- White's homer marked her ninth of the season. She is now tied with Eltze as the team's leader.
- Five players combined for the five Omaha hits.
- This marks the second straight season the Mavericks have made the summit League Championship game.
