VERMILLION, S.D. - After bad weather and a site change, the Mavericks finally took the field to play their quarterfinal game vs. No. 3 North Dakota State. The Bison took a 2-0 win over Omaha to advance to the semifinals. Omaha will move on to play the loser of No. 1 South Dakota State vs. No. 4 South Dakota Saturday.
The Mavericks fall to 29-13 on the season.
How It Happened
- The Bison struck first Saturday night. They plated a run on three hits in the third as they started to find a rhythm. Padgett and Gates recorded back-to-back singles for a pair of early base runners. Padgett scored the first run with a double down the right field line from Cardenas.
- Sierra Leonetti led-off the bottom half of the third with Omaha's first hit to center. The Mavericks would get two more on base but couldn't convert allowing NDSU a 1-0 lead.
- NDSU doubled its lead in the fourth with a solo homer from Goetschius in the second at-bat.
- Lexi Burkhardt doubled in the fourth, but Vargas retired the next two Mavericks to escape the inning. NDSU tallied three hits over the next two innings, but Omaha's defense held the runners at bay.
- Jamie White gave the Mavericks hope in the sixth with a single down the right field line. She'd be stranded as Omaha continued to struggle hitting Vargas. It would be the last hit for the Mavericks, and the Bison won, 2-0.
