Mavericks Sweep Roos on Senior Day

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks closed the home schedule with a sweep over the Roos Saturday afternoon. Omaha edged Kansas City 4-3 in game one and shutout game two, 7-0.

With the wins, the Mavericks improve to 26-12 overall and 14-4 in league action. The 14 league wins marks the most in Summit League play since Omaha joined the conference in 2013.

How It Happened
  • Omaha's first hits and runs of Sunday's action came in the bottom of the third inning. Sophie Cerveny led off with a single and scored on Maggie O'Brien's triple on the next at-bat. Izzy Eltze plated O'Brien with a sac-fly, and the Mavericks led 2-0 at the end of the inning.
  • The Roos put up three of their own in the fourth to take the lead. Vonfeldt doubled and scored on Smith's single. Karnes then singled to score Slauson. KC's third run came in a suicide squeeze situation. Nichols laid down the bunt to plate Smith for a 3-2 lead.
  • Cerveny tallied her second hit of the game with a lead-off double in the fifth. She tied the game on an Eltze single. Lynsey Tucker brought in the game-winning run with a double to left center as Eltze crossed home. The Mavericks went on to win 4-3.

  • The Mavericks finished with six hits in game one. 
  • Cerveny finished 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. 
  • Eltze led with two RBI.
  • Sydney Hampton made the start in the circle, while Sydney Nusimer came in for relief. They both tallied a strikeout.
  • Nuismer gets the win and improves to 3-4 on the year.
  • Kamryn Meyer pitched the final 1.2 innings and recorded her third save of the season. She struck out three Roos.

How It Happened
  • Omaha capitalized on three hits in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Sydney Ross scored the first run after reaching on an error. Eltze would plate her on a single. A sac-fly from Jamie White brought Eltze home, while Lexi Burkhardt doubled to plate Tucker to cap the rally.
  • Sydney Albaugh added another run to the board in the fourth with a solo homer to left center field.
  • The Mavericks used another KC error in the sixth to score their fifth run of the game. Burkhard reached on a throwing error with two outs and made her way around the bases. She eventually scored on a single up the middle from Rachel Weber.
  • The final two runs came in the sixth inning for Omaha. With two outs, Eltze tripled to center and scored on Tucker's single in the next at-bat. White brought Tucker in with a double to left center that nearly cleared the fence for a walk-off run rule. Omaha wins, 7-0.

  • Omaha finished with nine hits in game two.
  • Eltze led the way going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
  • Tucker added two hits, two runs, and one RBI.
  • The Mavericks recorded five multi-base hits, including three doubles, a triple, and one homer.
  • Tucker and Ross each stole two bases.
  • Meyer pitched a complete game. She finished with six strikeouts and picked up her 18th win in the circle. 
  • This marks her 10th shutout of the season and Omaha's 14th.

Up Next
The Mavericks close the regular season at Western Illinois next weekend. Omaha and WIU will play a single game on Friday at 3:30 pm. A doubleheader will be played on Saturday at noon.
