OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha softball used an explosive third inning to pace itself to an 8-4 win over Kansas City in game one Saturday afternoon.
Lynsey Tucker and
Maggie O'Brien each tallied a pair of hits on the day.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to 24-12 overall and 12-4 in league play.
How It Happened
- The bats came alive in the third inning sparked by a lead-off single by O'Brien. She got to third following a stolen base and wild pitch and went on to score the first run of the game on a Tucker single. Tucker followed her home after Jamie White doubled down the left field line to plate Tucker, and Lexi Burkhardt then doubled to plate White. Burkhardt would score the final run of the inning on a single from Rachel Weber.
- Omaha added two more runs in the fourth inning. Tucker singled to center for an RBI, while Burkhardt's grounded-out scored Eltze. Mavericks led 6-0 heading into the fifth.
- The Roos put their first run on the board in the fifth inning. Hilbrenner doubled to center and scored on Vonfeldt's infield single.
- Two more came across for Omaha in the sixth. Jaelle Johnson and Olivia Aden walked back-to-back to start in inning. They both scored on O'Brien's at-bat while the play was forced at second. Omaha led 8-1 going into the final frame.
- Hilbrenner and D'Ambrosio recorded two straight singles and were plated by a Vonfeldt homer over the center field fence. The rally fell short, and the Mavericks won, 8-4.
Inside the Box Score
- Tucker and O'Brien tallied two hits each. Tucker batted two in, while O'Brien scored twice.
- Burkhardt also finished with two RBI.
- Kamryn Meyer earned the win. It marks her 17th of the season. She retired five batters.
- Sydney Nusimer pitched the final two innings. She recorded on strikeout.
