VERMILLION, S.D. - For the second straight weekend, Omaha softball pitcher
Kamryn Meyer broke the single-game strikeout record. She retired 19 Coyotes in game one of Saturday's doubleheader to notch a new career-high and up the record by one strikeout.
The Mavericks won the first of the day, 8-1, and followed up with a 10-3 win in game two.
With the wins, Omaha sits at 22-12 overall and 10-4 in the Summit League. This is the most wins the Mavericks have recorded in a season since 2016.
Game One: Omaha 9, South Dakota 1
How It Happened
- Omaha got on the board in the top of the first inning before the teams went into a defensive battle. Izzy Eltze reached in the leadoff spot on an error by the South Dakota right fielder. Jamie White hit her home with a single to left field, and the Mavericks took an early 1-0 lead.
- Jaelle Johnson helped Omaha double the lead in the fourth inning. She plated Lexi Burkhardt with a single to left center field.
- Sydney Ross led off the fifth inning with a base hit and stole her way to send. She'd cross home plate for the third Omaha run on an Eltze single to left center.
- The Yotes cut the lead to two in the bottom frame. Sainz reached on a walk to open the inning and made it a 3-1 game on Eamiguel's single to right field.
- The Mavericks got two more in the sixth. Lexi Burkhardt walked in the leadoff spot. She made it to third on a wild pitch and Rachel Weber double. Burkhardt then scored on a passed ball making it 4-1.
- Olivia Aden tallied an RBI double sending Weber home for the fifth run of the game.
- Omaha's offense continued into the top of the seventh. The Mavericks tallied five hits highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Jamie White and Burkhardt. White tallied two RBI, while Burkhardt's was a solo homer. Mavericks went on to win 8-1.

- Meyer earned her 15th win in the circle. She recorded a new program single-season record of 19 strikeouts. It surpassed the record she set last week with 18 in the circle.
- For the third time this season, Omaha recorded 13 hits.

Game Two: Omaha 10, South Dakota 3
How It Happened
- Omaha's offensive stride slowed a bit in game two of Saturday's action. Eltze and Lynsey Tucker recorded two consecutive hits, but the Mavericks couldn't convert in the first. The Coyotes tallied their first hit in the bottom, but left two on base to remain scoreless.
- USD then jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second. Pender reached on a single would score on Moser's two-run blast to center field on the next at-bat.
- Ross and Eltze helped cut the lead in half with a pair of hits in the third. Ross led off with a double and was plated by Eltze's single. Nicholson responded for USD with a solo homer on the first pitch of the third to make it 3-1 in favor of the Coyotes.
- Omaha knotted the game 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning. This time Maggie O'Brien hit two in with a single to center. Ross and Weber scored for the Mavericks.
- The Mavericks took their first lead in the top of the fifth inning. Tucker led off with a double, which was quickly followed by a White homer for a 5-3 edge. Weber, Jaelle Johnson, and Olivia Aden recorded three straight singles later on in the inning. Aden's plated Weber for another Omaha run.
- In the top of the sixth, Omaha added a pair of runs to the board. The inning was highlighted by a solo homer by Eltze to lead off.
- The Mavericks tallied two more in the seventh. Eltze and O'Brien scored on two Omaha hits. The Mavericks went on to win 10-3.
Inside the Box Score
- Omaha recorded a season-high 14 hits. Eight Mavericks combined for the record.
- Eltze led the way with a career-high four hits. She tallied a triple and a home run.
- Tucker followed with three hits.
- Sydney Nuismer made the start and earned the win. It's her third of the season.
- Meyer pitched the remaining three innings. She recorded her second save of the year and tallied another six strikeouts.
