Mavericks Fall To USM, Run-Rule Radford

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The Mavericks played another day of games at the Florida Spring Games Saturday. Omaha dropped the first one to Southern Mississippi, 5-2. They rebounded with an 8-0 run-rule win over Radford to wrap up the day.
 
Omaha improves to 10-7 overall.

How It Happened
  • The Golden Eagles used early walks in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Mavericks.
  • The lead doubled in the second to 2-0. Borden led off with a walk and made it to third on a double from Jennings. Borden would score on the next at-bat when Smith singled to right center.
  • Jamie White led off the bottom of the second with Omaha's first hit, but the Mavericks left her on base with three straight outs to follow.
  • Lee used a solo home run in the third to increase USM's lead, 3-0.
  • Omaha made it a one-run game in the fifth inning with two runs on four hits. Sydney Ross and Sydney Albaugh led off with two consecutive singles. Ross would score on Maggie O'Brien's single to the shortstop.
  • Jaelle Johnson pinch ran for Albaugh and scored on a single from Lynsey Tucker later in the inning.
  • The Golden Eagles tallied another homer in the sixth. This time Brown sent a solo shot over the right field fence for a 4-2 lead.
  • They added one more in the seventh. Lee led off with a double and scored on the next at-bat when Williams singled. USM wins, 5-2.

  • Kamryn Meyer pitched the first three innings. She struck out two batters and falls to 5-2 in the circle.

How It Happened
  • The Mavericks sealed the win in the first inning vs. the Highlanders Saturday afternoon. Izzy Eltze, Tucker, and Lexi Burkhardt filled the bases in the first three at-bats. Eltze scored the first run following White being hit by a pitch.
  • Tucker was plated on a fielder's choice situation, while Alexa Sedlak singled to center field scoring Ross and Burkhardt for a 4-0 lead.
  • Omaha next run was scored by Sedlak on a single to left field from O'Brien.
  • Eltze capped the inning and scoring efforts with a three-run blast scoring O'Brien, Aden, and herself. Mavericks win 8-0 in five.

  • Eltze now leads the Mavericks with four homers this season.
  • She's posted three RBI twice this weekend for a season-high.
  • Tucker tallied two of Omaha's seven hits vs. the Highlanders.
  • Tucker and Sedlak each stole a base.
