MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Omaha softball opened the Florida Spring Games with a split on Friday. The Mavericks fell to Central Michigan in the first game, 4-1. They then rebounded with a 6-0 win vs. Georgetown to take game two.
Omaha improves to 9-6 overall.
Game 1: Central Michigan 4, Omaha 1
How It Happened
- The Chippewas took a quick lead in the top of the first plating the first two runs of the game. Tolmie led off with a single to left field that was followed up by a two-run homer from Stein for the lead.
- Izzy Eltze and Lynsey Tucker tallied back-to-back singles to center to open the bottom half of the inning, but the Mavericks left them on base to end the inning.
- Central Michigan doubled its lead in the second inning. They loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch and two walks. Two more walks brought in a pair of runs for a 4-0 lead.
- Olivia Aden, Maggie O'Brien, Jamie White, and Eltze tallied base-hits over the next four innings for the Mavericks, but they wouldn't score until the sixth.
- White sent a solo shot over the center field fence to put Omaha on the board with a run. The Mavericks trailed 4-1 heading into the seventh.
- Omaha retired the Chippewas in order and loaded the bases in the seventh, but CMU tallied the final out of the inning and won 4-1.
Inside the Box Score
- Sydney Nuismer made the start in the circle. She falls to 2-3 and tallied one strikeout in one inning of work.
- Sydney Hampton and Anna Chapman came in for relief. Chapman retired three batters over 5.1 innings.
- Eltze finished 3-of-4 at the plate, while White and O'Brien finished with two hits each.
Game 2: Omaha 6, Georgetown 0
How It Happened
- The Mavericks rebounded in the second game of Friday's action with a win. The first runs came in bottom of the fourth when Omaha took a 2-0 lead. Ross and Olivia Aden got on base early with a hit-by-pitch and single. Eltze hit them in with a double to center.
- Eltze made it 3-0 in the sixth with an infield single to score Sophie Cerveny.
- Burkhardt doubled the Maverick lead with a double to center that cleared the bases for a 6-0 win.
Inside the Box Score
- Eltze finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI.
- Burkhardt tallied two hits and three RBI.
- Kamryn Meyer earned the win in the circle. She retired 14 batters, just one shy of her career-high.
