OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha softball opened Summit League play hosting defending champions South Dakota State. The Mavericks shutout the Jackrabbits 2-0 in game one, while SDSU earned a 6-3 win in game two.
With the split, Omaha improves to 12-9 overall and 1-1 in league action.
Game One: Omaha 2, SDSU 0
How It Happened:
- The Mavericks used and early SDSU error to scored their first run in the opening inning. Izzy Eltze led off with a single through the left side. She eventually stole second on Lynsey Tucker's at bat to get in scoring position. A single from Lexi Burkhardt advanced her to third, and she scored on a throwing error home by the center fielder.
- Eltze then doubled the lead in the fifth inning with a solo homer clearing the center field fence.
- SDSU tallied a hit in the sixth, but Omaha held on for a 2-0 win.
Inside the Box Score
- Eltze's homer was her fifth of the season.
- Kamryn Meyer improves to 7-3 overall and retired eight batters. It's Meyer's sixth shutout.
- This marked the first win vs. the Jackrabbits since 2018.
Game Two: SDSU 6, Omaha 3
How It Happened:
- The Jackrabbits used two hits in the first to take a 1-0 edge early in game two of Saturday's action. With two outs, Halvorson doubled to right center and scored on Lenox's double to the same place.
- The Mavericks tied it up in the third inning. Maggie O'Brien led off with a walk and scored later in the inning on a double to center from Tucker.
- Omaha plated two more in the fourth for a 3-1 edge. Taylor Johnson and O'Brien recorded RBI singles to plate Rachel Weber and Aden.
- SDSU's offense picked up in the sixth when the Jackrabbits took the final lead of the game. R. Carrillo sparked the rally with a single up the middle. Masterson followed her to the base paths reaching on an Omaha error. The bases then loaded with an Elliot walk setting Jarecki up for success. She homer over the right center wall for a grand slam and a 5-3 SDSU lead.
- The Jackrabbits walked in one more in the seventh to secure a 6-3 win in game two.
