Box Score GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Omaha's Summit League season got off to a rocky start on Sunday.
North Dakota claimed five singles matches, and the doubled point, in its 6-1 win over the Mavericks.
Matt Hulme's 6-3, 6-5 victory over Gerhard Sullwald at the No. 1 spot was Omaha's lone win.
Todd Chen and
Hugo Piles Ballester both lost tiebreakers in the third set of their matches.
Cameron Luhring took the first set of his No. 6 singles battle before dropping the next two.
"North Dakota played solid tennis from start to finish," Omaha coach
Matthew Barlow said. "We had opportunities in all of our singles matches but did not capitalize on big points. We need to get better in big moments and pressure situations, which we will be working on this week."
The Fighting Hawks, picked to finish a spot behind the Mavericks at fourth place in the Summit's preseason poll, took all three doubles matches to open the day. They clinched their victory when Nikita Snezho finished off a two-set sweep in a close match with
Yaswanth Mylavarapu 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
