LOS ANGELES – Omaha never let Southern Cal string together enough offensively to do any real damage.
The Mavericks, however, couldn't mount enough offense themselves to pick up another Pac-12 win.
Omaha (2-5) managed only five hits in its 5-2 loss to the Trojans (4-2) Saturday at Dedeaux Field.
Jaxson Simmerman homered and scored both Maverick runs in the game. His solo shot in the third inning pulled Omaha to within 2-1 after USC grabbed an early lead. He also scored on an RBI single by
Drew Reetz in the fifth after Nick Lopez went deep for the Trojans to extend their lead to 3-1.
USC scored four runs off Maverick starter
Charlie Bell (1-1), who surrendered 10 hits in his five innings of work.
Jarrett Blunt pitched the final three innings, allowing only two hits and one unearned run.
Tyler Stromsborg (1-0) allowed one earned run in five innings to get the win for the Trojans, who scored a single run in five different innings in their victory.
