Brookings, South Dakota – The Omaha track & field team posted thirteen lifetime bests at the two-day SDSU Indoor Classic at South Dakota State on Friday and Saturday. Highlights included:
DAY 1
4x800m Relay
Day one was highlighted by the team of
Paige Blackford,
Olivia Steffen,
Madeline Yardley, and
Gwen Steffen finishing second in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:26:61.
5000m
Maya Nachtigal ran a lifetime best of 18:16.90. Nachtigal's time placed her 8th all-time in school history.
Maret Elgren ran a time of 19:14.95, which was just 1.49 off her lifetime best.
Danielle Howard ran a lifetime best of 19:25.17.
Zoe Christenson ran a lifetime best 19:29.03.
DAY 2
60m
Carrie Simonson was just .03 off her lifetime best, finishing with a time of 7.84.
Nina Cuevas ran a college best time of 7.92.
200m
In the 200 meters, Simonson ran a season best time of 25.73, finishing tenth.
Cuevas continued her solid meet by running an indoor PR of 26.09.
Taylor Ramaekers ran an indoor lifetime best with a time of 27.89.
Roxy Denton also ran an indoor lifetime best with a time of 28.27.
400m
Brianna Fulton and
Macy Persinger finished first and second in their heat, both running indoor lifetime bests.
Fulton improved her time by 3/4 of a second, finishing with a time of 1:00:83.
Persinger improved her time by nearly a full second, finishing with a time of 1:00:92.
800m
Paige Blackford finished under 2:15 for the first time, running a time of 2:14.95.
Gwen Steffen ran a college best time of 2:19.89.
Mile
Madeline Yardley finished the race with a time of 5:28:68, her lifetime best.
Danielle Howard also ran a lifetime best in the mile, running a 5:28:85.
Zoe Christenson was the third Maverick to run a lifetime best in the mile, finishing with a time of 5:35:50.
Shot put
Kinsey Scheffler's throw of 39'8.5" beat her previous PR by nine inches.
"We had some people step up this weekend who were due for a good performance," said head coach
Chris Richardson. "Maya jumping into the all-time top 10 in the 5K shows the hard work that her, Coach Cisar and Coach Koski have been putting in. You have to believe that you can accomplish something before you can achieve it and that's what they did."
The Mavericks will head to Lincoln next Friday to compete at the Nebraska Tune Up before heading to Grand Forks, North Dakota for the Summit League Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26.
