CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Omaha softball opened the 2022 season at the UNI Dome Tournament Friday morning. The Mavericks dropped a pair of games to Nebraska and Iowa State.
With the losses, Omaha is 0-2 overall.
Game One: Nebraska 6, Omaha 1
How It Happened
- The Huskers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning capitalizing on a walk and wild pitch to plate a pair.
- Taylor Johnson attempted to spark Omaha's offense in the bottom of the second with a double to right field, but she was left stranded.
- In the fourth inning, Neal doubled the Nebraska lead with a two-run homer.
- The top of the seventh opened with a solo home run from Andrews making it a 5-0 lead for Nebraska.
- The Mavericks finally crossed home plate in the bottom of the seventh with their lone run of the game.
- Alexa Sedlak got on base with a single to right field. Rachel Weber then hit her home with a double down the left field line.

- Sophie Cerveny went 2-of-3 at the plate in her career debut for Omaha.
- Kamryn Meyer made the start in the circle. She falls to 0-1 and retired six batters.
- Sydney Hampton came in for relief and retired two.
Game Two: Iowa State 10, Omaha 2 (5 innings)
How It Happened
- Lynsey Tucker recorded the first hit of the day with a single in the first. Omaha gained Jamie White on the base path following a walk, but Iowa State turned a double-play to end the top of the first.
- The Cyclones responded by putting four runs on the board in the first. Allen's double to left center tallied the first RBI, while Ochoa singled on the next at-bat. Two runs would cross home on the play.
- Pond's single capped the first inning onslaught with another pair of runs for ISU.
- ISU kept the momentum going with another five runs in the bottom of the second. Ramos opened the inning with a solo homer to right center, while her sister doubled to left center a few at-bats later for another RBI.
- Ochao tallied another one-run single, while the final two runs were walked in.
- The Mavericks responded in the third with their two runs of the game. Cerveny and Maggie O'Brien recorded back-to-back hits to start the action. They both advanced on a wild pitch.
- Cerveny scored on Izzy Eltze's grounder to second, while O'Brien was played on White's double to left.
- One final run was scored for ISU in the bottom of the third. Ramos scored on a Pond double to seal a 10-2 win in five innings.
Inside the Box
- Cerveny finished 2-for-2 and totaled four hits on the day.
- O'Brien also finished 2-for-2 at the plate.
- Sydney Nuismer made the start and falls to 0-1.
- Anna Chapman came in for relief and recorded four strikeouts.
