Omaha, NE. – The Omaha women's basketball team fell to the South Dakota Coyotes 61-35 Thursday night in Vermillion, South Dakota.
Leaders For Omaha
Mariah Murdie led the Mavericks with eight points to go along with her two blocks.
Kennedi Grant chipped in six points while
Alexis Pratt hauled in a team-best six rebounds.
Leaders for South Dakota
Chloe Lamb scored a team-best 11 points for the Coyotes and was the lone scorer in double digits in the contest. Liv Korngable, Hannah Sjervin and Grace Larkins each chipped in nine points, Sjerven hauled in a team-high eight rebounds.
Team Stats
Omaha shot 26.7 percent (12-45) from the field and hauled in 34 rebounds. South Dakota shot 36.1 percent (22-61) from the field and drained four threes while compiling 15 assists.
Inside the First Quarter
The Coyotes came out firing against the Mavericks starting the game on a 13-0 run during the first 6:18 of play. Pratt got Omaha on the board with a tough bucket in the paint, however South Dakota would take a 20-6 lead into the second quarter.
Inside the Second Quarter
Grant drained two free throws to start the second period. South Dakota would then end the quarter on a 17-3 run getting buckets from six different Coyotes.
Inside the Third Quarter
Omaha pulled back some in the third, starting the quarter on a 9-2 run capped by a corner three from
Sophie Johnston to make it 39-20 South Dakota. The Coyotes would take a 50-24 lead into the final period.
Inside the Fourth Quarter
After two South Dakota buckets the Mavericks scored eight straight points including a three from
Natalie Bartle. The Coyotes however would close out the game on a 7-3 run on the way to the 61-35 victory.
Next Up
The Mavericks will head to Brookings South Dakota Saturday to take on the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at 2 pm.
