Mavericks Drop Friday Night Bout with CC

The Omaha Mavericks battled the Colorado College Tigers hard for a solid 60 minutes this evening but ultimately fall 6-4 tonight.

For the second Friday in a row, the Mavericks erased an early multi-goal 1st period deficit to take a lead. After trailing 2-0 12:38 into the game, Omaha would go on to rattle off the next three goals to take a 3-2 lead over CC.

Jonny Tychonick got the Mavericks on the board at 18:47 of the 1st period with a slap shot goal on the power play from the high slot. Tyler Weiss and Jack Randl registered the helpers. 4:03 into the 2nd period, NCAA leading goal scorer Jack Randl buried his 15th goal of the season when put home his own rebound out front of the Tigers cage to equalize things at 2-2. Rookie blueliner Jacob Guevin lit the lamp for the second time this season with a wicked wrister from the high slot to give the Mavericks their first lead of the night at 3-2, 9:19 into the 2nd period.

CC would go on to take a 4-3 lead, 4:14 into the 3rd period but Omaha wouldn't go away quietly. Ty Mueller tied things up at 4-4 with 11:41 left in regulation. Matt Miller flew into the offensive zone, won a puck battle and fed a breaking Mueller who would bury far-side for his sixth goal of the season. CC eventually would go on to score the game winning goal with 4:35 left in the game and added an empty net goal with 72 seconds remaining.

Guevin (1g, 1a), Mueller (1g, 1a), Randl (1g, 1a) and Miller (2a) all tallied multi-point nights. It's the third multi-point game for Guevin and Mueller, the fourth for Miller and team leading seventh for Randl.

Despite falling for just the third time on the road in regulation, the Mavericks special teams continued to be good. Omaha went 1-for-4 on the power play with seven shots on net and held CC scoreless with just one shot in their two power play attempts.

Omaha remains in third place in the NCHC after tonight's defeat. It's just the third time the Mavericks have fallen in regulation in their last 10 games. Omaha and Colorado College will close out the weekend tomorrow night from Ed Robson Arena. Puck drop slated for 7:00 PM CT.
