Mavericks Edged in Series Opener Against SLU

The Omaha Mavericks narrowly fall 2-1 in OT to the St. Lawrence Saints in tonight's series opener. The Mavericks out-shot SLU 37-22 in the contest.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes that saw the Mavericks outshoot the Saints 9-5, it would be Sophomore forward Ty Mueller who would break the stalemate with 14:43 left in the 2nd period. The Mavericks took full advantage of a delayed penalty call en route to Mueller's seventh goal of the season. Omaha was able to hold the puck for 40 seconds while on a delayed St. Lawrence penalty. Jonny Tychonick showed great patience and found a breaking Mueller who tipped it home backdoor. Tyler Weiss was credited with the secondary assist.

Mueller has now recorded at least one point in 15 of the Mavericks 19 games this season. Tychonick's primary assist tonight is his 14th point of the year, which leads all Maverick blueliners.

The Mavericks will look to bounce back tomorrow night as they close out 2022 and ring in the new year with the Saints at 8:07 p.m.
