Omaha Drops Saturday Contest at North Texas

DENTON, Texas - The Mavericks fell on the road to the Mean Green Saturday night. North Texas hit nine threes in the second half powering a 75-45 win.

Omaha falls to 3-6 overall.

Omaha Leaders
Frankie Fidler led the Omaha offense with 14 points on 5-of-9 from the field. He recorded four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Akol Arop matched his career-high with 12 points off the bench. Arop also tallied four boards to tie Fidler as the team leader.

JJ White had active hands on defense finishing the night with a career-high four steals.

North Texas Leaders
The Mean Green were led by the night's leading scorer, Abou Ousmane. He poured in 19 points on 8-of-10 from the field. He fell just shy of a double-double with eight boards, and he tallied one assist, two steals, and two blocks. Aaron Scott also flirted with a double-double. He had 11 points and a team-high nine boards.

Jayden Martinez scored double-figures off the bench with 13 points. He was 4-of-4 from deep.

Team Stats
The Mavericks shot 31.4 percent from the field, while the Mean Green hit over 44 percent of their attempts. North Texas had success from three-point range finishing 10-of-25. Omaha only connected on two shots from deep.

North Texas converted 15 offensive boards into 17 points to lead Omaha by 13 in the category. The Mean Green also led on points in the paint (30-20) and bench points (28-15). The Mavericks held an edge on points off turnovers (7-5) and on the fast break (4-3).

Inside the First Half
North Texas opened the game on a 9-2 run over the first five minutes of action. Eady and Huntsberry started the scoring with back-to-back field goals. Dylan Brougham put Omaha's first points on the board with a layup in the paint more than three minutes in.

After the 16-minute media timeout, Fidler and Arop scored four straight points to get the Mavericks within three of the Mean Green at the 12:51 mark, but North Texas began to pull away again after the eight-minute media. Ousmane converted a Maverick turnover into a bucket for an eight-point lead, and the Mean Green extended the lead to nine twice before the end of the half. Brougham had a last second tip-in. Omaha trailed 29-22 at the half.

Inside the Second Half
The Mavericks couldn't find their rhythm in the second half and allowed the Mean Green to continue building their lead. Eady opened the UNT scoring with a three-pointer to eclipse the 10-point lead mark less than a minute and a half into the action. Arop and Fidler connected from Omaha to get the Mavericks within 10 twice, but it would be the closest they'd get for the remainder of the game.

Out of the 16-minute media timeout, the Mean Green went on an 11-0 run for a 23-point lead at the 10:42 mark. In that stretch they hit three from long range. Arop and Fidler hit back-to-back threes for Omaha with 9:20 on the clock attempting to spark a Maverick rally, but North Texas followed shortly after with a 9-0 lead to shut down any chance of an Omaha comeback. North Texas went on to win, 75-45.

Game Notes
-Arop scored 12 points to match his career-high. He set it during the Emerald Coast Classic against ULM.
-It marked his second game in double-figures this season, and Fidler's fifth game.
-Fidler is on a three-game double-figure scoring streak.
