Volleyball Ready for Final Road Trip of the Season

OMAHA, Neb. - Following another successful home stand that saw the Mavericks improve their current winning streak to four in a row, the team will set off for North Dakota in their final road trip of the season. First, they will take on North Dakota State University in Fargo on Thursday, before heading to Grand Forks to play the University of North Dakota on Saturday.

Quick Hits
  • The Mavericks won two matches last week against Kansas City and Oral Roberts, improving to 17-8 overall and 12-3 in the Summit League. They have now won four matches in a row and remain in second place in the league with just three matches left in the regular season.
  • Shayla McCormick had another explosive week as she added 23 more kills to give her 355 on the season, as well as setting a new career-high with seven service aces against ORU. 
  • After moving into fourth on the all-time Mavericks assists leader board, Sami Clarkson made history again vs. Kansas City when she became just the third player in program history to reach 4000 career assists. With 4045 now, she is only 48 assists away from taking third place.
  • Last week also saw several individual season milestones get passed by multiple Mavericks, as Brilee Wieseler eclipsed 200 digs, Kali Jurgensmeier topped 200 kills, McKenna Ruch reached 250 kills, and Marriah Buss scored her 300th kill.
  • Mariah Murdie had another great week at the net as she led the team with 11 total blocks, including an eight-block performance against ORU.
  • Rachel Fairbanks had her best offensive week of the season with 17 kills, including a season-high 11 vs. Kansas City.
Scouting North Dakota State
The Bison enter the week just half a game back from the Mavericks in the standings at 18-8 overall and 11-3 in the conference. Last week, they went 1-1, dropping their first match 1-3 to South Dakota State, before rebounding with a 3-2 win over North Dakota on Saturday.

Senior Syra Tanchin is one of the top attackers in the Summit League, ranking in the top five in kills (343) and total points (393). When NDSU played Omaha earlier this season, she led her team with 14 kills. Senior Kelley Johnson currently leads the entire league in assists (1038) and assists/set (10.59). She picked up 44 assists, as well as 11 digs, against the Mavericks back in October. Senior Michelle Glover ranks near the top of the league in both hitting % (.391) and total blocks (92). Against Omaha this season, she added five total blocks, including two solos, and seven kills. 

Series History
Omaha picked up its 50th win against NDSU back on October 15 of this year, giving them a 50-43 edge in the all-time series. The Mavericks won that match 3-1, led by a 21-kill performance from McCormick.

Scouting North Dakota
The Fighting Hawks are in fifth place in the Summit league at 12-13 overall and 9-5 in league play. UND dropped a pair of five-set matches last week as they fell short to both South Dakota and North Dakota State 2-3. They will host a match with Denver on Thursday before the Mavericks come to town.

Junior Elizabeth Norris is one of UND's most versatile players, ranking in the team's top five in kills (220), aces (10), digs (226), and total blocks (38), while leading everyone with 465 assists and 250.5 points. Against Omaha this year, she posted seven kills and six digs. Senior Kortney Carney ranks fourth in the Summit League with 373 digs and fifth in digs/set with 3.85. She had 14 digs against the Mavericks back on October 13. Graduate Student Marissa Stockman is a top-10 blocker in the Summit League with 94 total blocks and 1.03 blocks/set. She had four total blocks, including one solo, against Omaha this year.

Series History
The Mavericks own a comfortable 51-13 lead in the all-time series against North Dakota. Omaha swept them 3-0 back on October 13th, with Jurgensmeier recording 11 kills in the match.
