The Omaha Mavericks placed 7th this afternoon at the Summit League Championships in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Freshman standout Kamryn Ensley, who was tabbed as one of the Summit League Preseason Runners to Watch, finished 4th overall and broke her own 6K school record this afternoon that she set earlier this year at the Gans Creek Classic. Ensley was named Newcomer of the Championship for her performance.
"Kamryn ran another solid race today. We know the course was a bit short, but that doesn't matter on the approach you have to have in order to compete at your highest level in any given race," Omaha head coach
Cliff Cisar said. "She did a great job and it's exciting to have the newcomer of the year to build around."
Omaha's Top 7 finished with a total time of 2:34:51. Kamryn Ensley (4th - 20:18.9),
Maya Nachtigal (27th - 21:33.7), Maddie Yardley (36th - 22:07.7), Lily Jackson (50th - 22:31.4), Emily Treptow (54th - 22:38.7),
Danielle Howard (56th - 22:48.00) and Maddie Swanson (58th - 22:53.00).
"The race results weren't exactly as we would have hoped for the team," Cisar said. "Coming in we knew we could place higher than our pick overall. We unfortunately let the race go out and get ahead of us in the early stages which made it too difficult to make up those spots as the race went on. We will learn from that mistake and make adjustments for the next opportunity."
The Mavericks will wrap up their 2022 campaign with the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on November 11 in Columbia, Missouri.
