With 22 seconds left in overtime,
Tyler Weiss blasted home a one-timer to secure a 3-2 win and series split with the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks.
Omaha erased a pair of one goal deficits in today's matinee battle with the Nanooks. Senior forward
Jack Randl continued his hot start to the season by scoring both of the Mavericks first two goals.
At 16:23 of the 2nd period, Randl buried his first of the afternoon when he cleaned up a loose puck out front of the Alaska cage to even things at 1-1. Blueliners
Davis Pennington and
Jonny Tychonick assisted on the lamp lighter. Just 2:59 into the 3rd period and on the penalty kill, Randl rifled a shot top right corner to once again equalize the game. The shot was so hard that it was initially called no goal on the ice and after video review, it was determined Randl did find the back of the twine. Miller and senior defenseman
Kirby Proctor tallied the helpers.
"I thought it was great for our guys to get rewarded tonight with what was a great 60 plus minutes of hockey," Omaha head coach
Mike Gabinet said. "There was some adversity tonight. Had to have a lot of kills and we were down and then down again so I'm just excited for them to play the right way and get rewarded."
Omaha outshot Alaska in today's contest 33-23. Freshman
Simon Latkoczy logged his first career victory with his 21 saves.
Next up for the Mavericks is a road trip out to Brooklyn, New York to take on the Long Island Sharks next weekend.
