Sophia Green netted the equalizer in the 80
th minute vs. the Roos Friday night to force a 1-1 draw on the road. It marks her second goal of the season.
With the draw, Omaha improves to 4-8-5 overall, 3-2-3 in the league.
How It Happened
- The first 17 minutes of action was a defensive battle between the Mavericks and Roos without either team tallying a shot on goal. Green took her first of the night and match at the 17:13 mark that went right into the hands of Mackenzie Caldwell.
- Emma Konsmo then recorded her first save of the night at the 24:23 mark on an attempt by Sophia Limongi. Reagan Bourgeois countered two minutes later, but the match remained scoreless.
- With a second left in the half, Rileigh Kunhs grabbed the lead for the Roos. Limongi passed from midfield into the box where Olivia Platt struck it down for Kuhns who beat Konsmo high with just a second left on the clock.
- Omaha put the pressure on right out of the halftime break. Marissa Gohr nailed a shot off the crossbar just 36 minutes into the action. Green nearly tied it off the rebound.
- The next shot on target didn't come until the 80th minute when Green scored the tying goal. Bourgeois fed the ball up the middle to green who took it into the low left of the box. Her attempt was deflected by Caldwell right into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.
- In the 85th minute, Green had a close strike for the lead, but it wouldn't get past Caldwell. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Inside the Box
- Green's goal marked her second of the season. She now leads the Mavericks with six points on two goals and two assists. She is on a three-match point streak with an assist vs. St. Thomas and Western Illinois last week.
- Green also tallied a career-high eight shots.
- Omaha led 21-6 on shots.
- Gohr (2) and Bourgeois (3) were the only other Mavericks with multiple attempts Friday.
- Konsmo tallied the only save of the night.
- Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen recorded the tie.
- The last time Omaha recorded five draws in a season was 2020 when the team finished 8-5-5. The five draws is the most an Omaha team has seen in program history.
- With the draw, Omaha will head to the Summit League Tournament for the fourth time under head coach Tim Walters and third straight season. A full bracket will be released Sunday.
