Home Finale Ends with 3-0 Shutout Win vs. Western Illinois

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks won their second straight match and closed the home schedule with back-to-back wins. Sunday's match vs. Western Illinois ended in a 3-0 shutout for Omaha's fourth win of the season.

With the win, Omaha improves to 4-8-4 overall, 3-2-2 in the league.

How It Happened
  • Four minutes into the match, Emilie Erland captured a 1-0 lead following a foul in the box by Angie Knies. Erland took the penalty shot and netted the goal in the low right of the net.
  • A little more than three minutes later, Lindsey Birch doubled the lead. Sophia Green took the ball low near the goal line and crossed to Birch who used one touch for the 2-0 edge.
  • Western Illinois managed its first shot on target in the 25th minute with Amy Andrews challenging Emma Konsmo who made the save.
  • Alyssa Hansen and Morgan Fenton took late shots for the Mavericks, but the Leathernecks made two stops. Omaha led 2-0 at the halftime break.
  • Grace Ostergaard added her name to the box score in the 53rd minute with Omaha's first shot on goal of the second half. Isabel Rodriguez made another big save for WIU.
  • Omaha needed only three more minutes to add to the scoreboard. For the second time this weekend, the Mavericks converted on a corner kick. Grace Crockett once again sent it into the box for Regan Zimmers. Zimmers headed it down to the feet of Marissa Gohr who tapped it in for a 3-0 lead.
  • In the 61st minute, Sarah De Gannes had two close calls, but the Mavericks made two team saves to keep the clean sheet.
  • Zimmers, Green, Erland, and Maggie Gunderson combined for six more shots on goal before the half ended. All were saved, but Omaha took a dominating 3-0 win.

  • Erland and Gohr are now tied as the team leader with five points each this season.
  • Today's goals marked the second of the season for each of them.
  • Birch's goal was the first of her career.
  • Crockett assisted for the second straight game. She has a team-leading three assists this season.
  • The Mavericks recorded a season-high 26 shots and led 13-3 in shots on goal.
  • Seven different players tallied at least two in Sunday's match. 
  • Green led with a season-high five shots.
  • Omaha's three goals was the most scored this season in a single game.
  • It marked the first time this year the Mavericks have won back-to-back games.
