Wichita, Kan.- The Omaha men's golf team ends the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational in ninth place after the final round on Tuesday.
The Mavericks totaled 304 as a team in the third round to end with a score of 891. Omaha falls nine strokes behind Drake, who takes eighth place with a team score of 882. Wichita State wins its own event, posting a three-round total of 853 to finish four strokes better than runner-up Utah Valley.
Mathew Halvorson ends with another top-20 finish, taking 20th place overall with a three-round score of 219. The graduate student used a 75 (+4) in the third round to earn the sixth top-20 finish of his career. One stroke behind Halvorson was Kurtis Rodriguez, who shares 25th place. The sophomore finished with a 73 (+2) in round three to finish with a two-day total of 220.
Golfing individually, Nolan Johnson recorded a 77 (+6) in the third round to earn 29th place overall. The freshman posted a three-round total of 221. Two strokes behind Johnson was Carter Doose. Doose posted a three-round score of 223 with a 78 (+7) in the final round on Tuesday to take 34th place.
Christopher Atkinson totaled 231, and Connor Wilson recorded a 234 throughout the event. In the third round, Atkinson posted a 79 (+8) and Wilson shot a 78 (+7) to take 53rd and 58th place, respectively.
The Mavericks have a week off before heading to Powells Point, N.C. for the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 23-25.
