Mavericks Post Lifetime Bests at Jack Johnson Classic

Jan 29, 2022

Minneapolis, Minnesota – The Omaha track & field team posted an incredible day of lifetime bests at the Jack Johnson Classic at Minnesota on Saturday.

"That ended up being a fun day with some great performances," said head coach Chris Richardson. "There were so many season and lifetime bests that I almost lost track."

"We challenged them before the meet to only focus on the aspects that they could control. When we let the factors that are beyond our reach distract us from the job we need to do, we lose sight of our goals. I'm very proud of the way they competed today."

Junior Carrie Simonson ran a time of 7.84 for the second fastest qualifying time in the 60 meter dash. Simonson followed up her prelim time with a time of 7.85 in the finals to finish second. Nina Cuevas ran a season best time of 8.04 in the prelims and finished 5th in the finals with a time of 8.07. Brianna Fulton finished eighth with a time of 8.19.

In the 200 meters, Simonson finished third with a time of 26.36. Cuevas took seventh with a time of 26.98. Taylor Ramaekers posted a PR of 28.25 to finish eleventh.

In the first 600 meter race of her career, Macy Persinger ran a time of 1:43:12 to finish third.

In the 3000 meters, Maya Nachtigal finished just a half second off her lifetime best with a time of 10:48:95 to finish fourth. The 4x400 meter relay team of Brianna Fulton, Gwen Steffen, Olivia Steffen and Paige Blackford finished second with a time of 4:06:94.

In the field events, Sheridan Rodriguez finished second in the high jump with a clearance of 5'5". Kaitlin Hellbusch tied her indoor best for the second week in a row with a jump of 5'3" to finish third.
