Omaha Outchances Tigers but Falls on Road

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – No. 16 Omaha outshot Colorado College in all three periods – and 32-19 overall – Friday at Ed Robson Arena yet dropped a 4-1 decision to the Tigers in an NCHC series opener.

Matt Miller's power-play goal 6:53 into the third period pulled the Mavericks (15-10) within 2-1 with plenty of time remaining. But Brian Hawkinson answered for Colorado College (7-13-3) with 5:24 left to extend the Tiger advantage back to two. Bryan Yoon capped the scoring with a late empty-net goal.

Colorado College moved in front when Brett Chroske's scored on a power play 9:59 into the game. Tommy Middleton's second-period goal, a redirection of a Nicklas Andrews shot, extended the lead to 2-0 after two periods, even though the Mavericks had outshot the Tigers 20-12 through 40 minutes.

Omaha broke through against Colorado College goalie Matt Vernon, who made 31 saves, when Tyler Weiss set up Miller for the lone Maverick goal. Jonny Tychonick had the secondary assist on the play.

Isaiah Saville finished with 15 saves for Omaha, which wraps up its series with the Tigers on Saturday.
