Swimming Dominates Win at St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The men's and women's swimming & diving teams picked up a monster conference win at St. Thomas Saturday afternoon. The men sailed to a 192-104 win, while the women dominated 208-91.

"I am really proud of the effort I saw at St. Thomas Saturday," said head coach Todd Samland. "We had some great swims and awesome dives. It was great to see our team rebound and bring the energy in this back-to-back meet."

The day started with Darby Drake and Kady Eller placing in the top-three in the 1-meter dive. Drake posted a zone score of 272.35, while Eller set a personal best with a score of 244.85. Ian Blackstock and David Goodwin swept the top two spots for the men. Blackstock scored 233.35, while Goodwin scored 221.15.

In the 3-meter events, Blackstock posted a personal best with a score of 261.75 for a first-place finish. Eller then led the women to second with a score of 251.50.

The swim events got underway next with the 400-medley relay. Gracie Streblow, Caroline Gardner, Hailey Matthews, and Payton Easley led the Mavericks to first with a time of 3:54.43. Kody Hollingsworth, Daniel Young, Elijah Clements, and Owen Hoak did the same for the men with a time of 3:26.97.

Carina Monroe continue to dominate the weekend distance events. She placed first in the 100-0-free with a time of 10:56.63, while Pharis Musleh led Omaha to second with a time of 9:57.16.

Matthews, Morgan Baker, and Parker Hagemann swept the top-three finishes in the 200-free. Matthews' time of 1:55.41 led the women in first. Caleb Miller also earned first in the event with a time of 1:45.77. Isaac Fletcher placed second.

In the 100-back, Streblow took first with a time of 57.82. Hollingsworth also nabbed the top spot with a time of 51.02.

Gardner then posted a time of 1:06.37 in the 100-breast for first place, while Brandon Cheong took third for the men with a time of 59.42.

In the 200-fly, Sadie Khalil took first swimming a time of 2:15.90. Luke Asbury joined her at the top with a time of 1:59.72 for the men.

Easley grabbed first with a time of 24.43 in the 50-free for the women, while Young, Grant Waszak, and Hoak swept one, two, and three for the men. Young's time of 20.85 was good for first.

Easley then led Omaha again in the 100-free with a time of 53.03, while Hagemann finished in third. Young grabbed another top finish for the men with a time of 46.75.

In the 200-back, Streblow continued her dominance and earned first with a time of 2:08.55. Hollingsworth tallied another victory with a time of 1:54.82 for the Maverick men.

Annie Leinart added her name to the top-spot charts with first in the 200-breast. She swam a time of 2:26.08. Chas Nolte placed second for the men with a time of 2:16.07.

The next event was the 500-free, and Omaha was led by Rylee Trojan and Nick Walkley. Trojan placed first with a time of 5:16.19. Walkley also placed first with a time of 4:57.26.

In the 100-fly, Matthews and Clements led Omaha to first place. Matthews swam a time of 58.18, while Clements posted a time of 51.28.

Matthews then cruised to another top-finish in the 200-IM with a time of 2:10.52. Miller joined her at the top with a time of 1:58.76.

In the final event of the day, Easley, Hagemann, Streblow, and Olivia Wassink placed first in the 200-free relay with a time of 1:38.16. Hoak, Luke Asbury, Hadley Keinath, and Hollingsworth did the same for the men with a time of 1:27.59.

Regular season action wraps next weekend. The swim teams will be at the Coyote Invite hosted by South Dakota Jan. 28-29. The diving teams host UNI for a meet at H&K on Jan. 29 at 2 p.m.
