LINCOLN, Neb. – The Mavericks completed day two at the Graduate Classic hosted by Nebraska to wrap up the first indoor meet of the calendar year Saturday afternoon.
"We had some good performances today," said head coach
Chris Richardson. "Mary cracking the top 10 was a great thing considering she's only a freshman. There's a lot more in there too. Throughout the two days there was a number of lifetime bests as well which is very encouraging."
Day Two
Saturday's action began with a sixth-place finish from
Mary Fennessy in shot put. She launched the shot 42-11 ½ which ranks ninth all-time in program history.
Also in the field events, Omaha found success in the high jump.
Sheridan Rodriguez led the squad with a jump of 5-05 good for sixth overall.
Kaitlin Hellbusch and
Milan Coggins tied 10
th in the event with jumps of 5-01.
Bernice Lawson jumped a 32-07 ½ triple jump for 11th place to lead Omaha in its final field event.
Carrie Simonson earned third in the 60-meter dash with a lifetime best time of 7.81.
Zoe Christenson placed in the top-10 in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.25, while
Vanessa Gunderson posted a time of 1:45.50 in the 600-meter run as Omaha's top finisher.
In the 200-meter dash,
Bernice Lawson led the Mavericks with a time of 27.07 for 11
th place.
Gwen Steffen,
Macy Persinger,
Paige Blackford, and
Maya Nachtigal led Omaha to third in the distance medley. They posted a time of 12:37.41.
Day One
The meet kicked off with the weight throw.
Lori Vedder led the Mavericks with a throw of 40-02 ¾ which placed 15
th in the event.
In the 60-meter hurdles qualifying event,
Taylor Ramaekers notched a personal record of 9.68 for 14
th overall.
Brianna Fulton then led the Mavericks in the 60-meter dash qualifying event. She finished sixth with a time of 8.18.
Persinger then won her section of the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.00 placing 12
th overall in the event.
Steffen picked up a top-five finish for the Mavericks in the 1000-meter run. She posted a time of 3:04.22 for fifth place in her Omaha track debut. Blackford also placed in the top-10. With a time of 3:07.34, Blackford was eighth overall and records a new lifetime best.
Nachtigal,
Danielle Howard,
Madeline Yardley, and Christenson all placed in the one mile run to complete Friday's action. Nachtigal led the pack finishing 10
th with a time of 5:23.54.
Howard placed 15
th with a time of 5:29.60, which is also a lifetime best for the Sioux Falls native. Yardley closely followed with a time of 5:32.19, and Christenson closed the pack in 26
th place.
