Omaha Falls to Kansas City 73-64

Omaha, NE. – The Omaha Mavericks fell to Kansas City 73-64 Monday night at Baxter Arena, Mariah Murdie led the Mavericks with a career-high 25 points in the loss.
 
Leaders For Omaha
Murdie scored 19 in the first half on the way to her career-high scoring effort. She was an efficient 11-of-16 from the field and active on the glass hauling in six boards. Grace Cave joined her in double-digits with 14 points, including three makes from beyond the arc. Josie Filer hauled in a team-high 10 rebounds, her third double-digit rebounding effort of the season.

Leaders for Kansas City
Brooklyn McDavid and Naomie Alnatas led the way for the Roos each scoring 22 points. McDavid also hauled in a team-best seven rebounds while Alnatas dished out three assists.

Team Stats
Omaha shot 43.4 (23-53) percent from the field and 33.3 (4-12) from beyond the arc. Kansas City outpaced the Mavericks offensively shooting at a 50 (28-56) percent pace, and outrebounded Omaha 33-28.

Inside the First Quarter
The two teams went back-and-forth to open the game, Kansas City eventually jumped out to a 15-10 lead before the Mavericks responded with a 7-0 run including five points from Murdie. The teams would be tied up at 19 heading into the second.
 
Inside the Second Quarter
Cave connected from deep early in the second, her third straight game with a three, to give Omaha a 25-23 lead with 7:35 left in the half. The Mavericks took a 33-28 lead thanks to five straight points from Murdie. The Roos would fight back to take the lead before a Murdie layup just before the buzzer gave Omaha the 35-34 halftime lead.

Inside the Third Quarter
The Mavericks jumped ahead 40-36 early in the third after free throw makes from Katie Keitges and Josie Filer. The Roos would then go on a 16-5 run getting seven points each from Sanaa' St. Andre and Alnatas during the stretch. A McDavid layup before the buzzer would give Kansas City a 56-51 lead heading into the final period.

Inside the Fourth Quarter
Kansas City pulled ahead 60-55 with 8:13 remaining before Omaha would fight back to tie it up at 60 thanks to back-to-back Murdie layups. Both teams went scoreless for over a four minute stretch but it was Kansas City who was able to weather the storm ending the game on a 13-4 run leading to the 73-64 final score.

The Mavericks will continue their homestand Thursday against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at Baxter Arena with tip-off set for 5 p.m.
