Omaha, NE. – The Omaha Mavericks were downed by the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 72-49, Monday night at Baxter Arena.
Elena Pilakouta scored 16 points to lead the Mavericks after missing the previous two games to injury.
Leaders For Omaha
Pilakouta was the lone Maverick in double digits with 16 points off the bench.
Josie Filer hauled in a team-best eight rebounds to go with her seven points.
Mariah Murdie also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and scored six points.
Leaders for South Dakota State
Two South Dakota State Jackrabbits scored in double digits. Paiton Burckhard scored a team-best 16 points to go along with her five rebounds, she was also 2-for-4 from beyond the arc. Tori Nelson drained three shots from deep in the way to 13 points, she also hauled in a team-high six rebounds.
Team Stats
Omaha shot 37.5 (21-56) percent from the field and scored 30 points in the paint. The Jackrabbits shot 49.1 (27-55) percent from the field and were red-hot from the three point line draining 13 shots from beyond the arc.
Inside the First Quarter
The Mavericks got out to a quick start against the Jackrabbits, starting the game on a 9-2 run behind five points from Freshman
Grace Cave. South Dakota State followed with a 10-2 run before Omaha scored the final six points to take a 17-12 lead into the second.
Inside the Second Quarter
South Dakota State drained four three's to start the second quarter leading to a 14-2 run and 26-20 lead. Murdie and Pilakouta both scored down low but the Jackrabbits would take a 29-24 lead into the break.
Inside the Third Quarter
South Dakota State opened the second half on fire making six of their first seven field goals including all four three's they attempted to take a commanding 48-28 lead and would end the quarter ahead 55-30.
Inside the Fourth Quarter
While Omaha outscored the Jackrabbits 19-17 in the fourth quarter they were unable to cut the deficit. Pilakouta scored three straight buckets for the Mavericks but South Dakota State maintained control to take the 72-49 win.
