SPOKANE, Wash. - Omaha closed non-conference action Saturday night with a match at No. 20 Gonzaga. With a goal in the 65th minute, the Zags extended their win streak to eight games with a 1-0 win vs. the Mavericks.
With the loss, Omaha fall to 3-4-2 on the year.
How It Happened
- The first half of Saturday's match was a battle between the teams with the Zags striking first. At the 1:31 mark, Lauren Elwer put the first shot on goal that was block by Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen in the low left corner.
- Andrea Daves responded at the 6:27 mark with Omaha's lone shot on goal in the half. Lyza Bosselman made a diving save near the center of the goal to keep the clean sheet. In the 24th minute, Gonzaga had another attempt on target that wouldn't connect and the match was tied 0-0 at the break.
- Marissa Gohr nearly gave the Mavericks a lead in the 53rd minute. Grace Ostergaard sent a cross into the box where Gohr used one touch. The shot went right into Gonzaga's keeper who was already on the ground to grab it.
- The Zags found the back of the net in the 65th minute to break the deadlock. Kelsey Oyler sent the ball over Rachel Thigpen's right shoulder for a high goal taking a 1-0 lead.
- Gonzaga managed three more shots on goal and held Omaha without another. Zags win 1-0.
Inside the Box
- Reedtz made the start and recorded two saves in the first half, while Thigpen played the second half between the pipes.
- Thigpen recorded a career-high five saves and falls to 0-2-0 on the year.
- Daves led the Mavericks with two shots.
- Daves and Gohr recorded the only Omaha shots on goal.
