Two-Out Hitting Leads Mavericks in Series Finale Win

FARGO, N.D. – The Omaha baseball team scored four of its runs after the sixth and tallied five hits and four RBI with two outs in a 5-4 win at North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.

The win moves the Mavericks to 19-19 (11-8 Summit League) on the season while the Bison drop to 32-14 (17-10).

How it Happened
  • An RBI double and a wild pitch had the Bison out front 2-0 in the first inning.
  • Grant Goldston reached on a fielding error in the second and later stole second before advancing to third on an NDSU fielding error and scoring on an NDSU throwing error in the same play.
  • A pair of singles and a sacrifice fly stretched the North Dakota State lead to 3-1 after three innings.
  • Goldston was hit by pitch and Jack Lombardi reached on an infield single before the two Mavericks scored on Ryan Doran's pinch-hit two-RBI double down the right field line in the top of the sixth to tie the game at three.
  • Lombardi fought off an 11-pitch at-bat to draw a walk with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh to plate Mike Boeve and give the Mavericks a 4-3 lead.
  • Boeve and Eduardo Rosario connected on back-to-back two-out singles before Keil Krumwiede's RBI single through the right side brought home Boeve and expanded the lead to 5-3 in the eighth.
  • The Bison got one run back in the bottom half of the eighth on a solo homer, cutting the Omaha lead to 5-4.
  • Jacob Mohler worked around a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth to retire the next two batters and clinch the win for Omaha.
