South Dakota Edges Omaha Women's Tennis, 4-3

OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks dropped a close meeting with the visiting South Dakota Coyotes Wednesday afternoon. USD edged Omaha 4-3 to pick up the conference win. With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 8-12 on the year.

"What a battle today," said head coach Adam Summitt. "We unfortunately came out on the wrong end, but I'm proud of how each girl played today. The fight was resilient. We have always had close matches with South Dakota. Credit to them for playing some great doubles to take that point, which ended up being the decider. We just have to learn from this and get better again on Sunday."

In doubles, the Mavericks fell behind early with a loss at the No. 3 line, but Ines Absisan and Natalie Lorentz evened things out with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 spot. The Coyotes took the doubles point after winning at the No. 2 line jumping out to a 1-0 lead.

Lorentz recorded the first point for Omaha with a win at No. 3 singles. She downed Natka Kmoskova, 6-2 and 6-2. Colby Kelley put a second point on the board for the Mavericks with a win at the No. 4 line. The first set went to a tiebreaker, which Kelley won, 7-5. She took the second set 7-5 for the point. The Mavericks' last point of the match came from a win by Madison Gallegos at the No. 1 line, but the Coyotes edged Omaha with a 4-3 win with three singles wins of their own.

Lorentz tallied two wins on the day to become just the fifth player in program history to record 100 career wins. This total includes wins in fall and spring competition in doubles and singles match-ups.

The Mavericks will be back in action Sunday, April 11 at Western Illinois. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.
